Did Jesus get a fair trial?

Consider all the facts.... did Jesus get a fair trial? Who wanted him executed the most?

  1. I think that Caiaphas wanted Jesus dead most, because He was a "threat" to the Temple's peace but mostly their income. If Ciaphas hadn't soiled his life with greed than none of this would have had to happen. Or someone else would have wanted so I think the Death was inevitable. I think that Jesus did have a fair trial. He didn't talk because He had to die for our freedom when we die. So He agrivated Piolet and Herod by not saying anything. This was what led piolet to give Jesus to the crowd.

  2. Did Jesus say to Pilate everything was fixed and he can't change it? Watch the trial before Pilate again on the Youtube video in the upper left corner.

Do the Biblical stories say everything was fixed?

  3. i agree with cait. I think Caiphas wanted Jesus dead the most. He was jealous of Jesus and how he had so many followers and saw him as a threat to the Temple. I do think Jesus had a fair trial. Really Pilate didn't want him dead and neither did Herod. He didnt speak so we can be free and so we can all enter heaven. I don't think Pilate was putting on an act for everyone. I think he really didnt want Jesus dead.

  4. During the trial, Pilate did all he can do to prevent Jesus’ crucifixion. He found him not guilty and asked if there was any way to help him. But Jesus replied “Everything is fixed, and you can’t change it.” Jesus is saying that there’s nothing Pilate can do to change his destiny. His fate was already chosen by God. To maintain peace in Rome, he allows the people to crucify Jesus. Clearly, Pilate didn't want to kill him. I think Jesus did not get a fair trial because there was no reason to crucify him. The mob had no proof to accuse Jesus of blasphemy. I think they really wanted to execute him because they feared he would overpower authorities and start a military revolution. Caiaphas, one of the most influential men in Jerusalem, wanted Jesus dead the most. He thought that Jesus was misguiding people. Caiaphas was jealous that people decided to listen to Jesus’ teachings rather than his. This is why he brought him to trial. To accuse him of blasphemy, he asked Jesus “Are you the Son of God, the Son of the Blessed? Are you The Messiah?" When Jesus truthfully answered “Yes” it convinced the court that he was lying. Then the court decides to give him the death sentence. The only way to get rid of him was to sentence him to death.

  5. ( Wow I almost forgot about this ......sorry Mr.Bauer)I know this is gonna sound weird but the one to blame Jesus' death is Jesus himself. He knew this was happening and he did nothing to prevent it. Although I completely understand why he did it though. But putting Jesus apart I completely agree with the girls, Caitlin, Victoria, and Amanda, above me. Caiphas really wanted Jesus dead because he posed a threat to the balance they(High Priest) had. He ( Jesus ) also posed a threat to their religion....love, peace, kindness to your neighbor.... that was all the things that the Jews/Zealots did not understand. On the video Pilate seems at first to feel sad for Jesus. But I am still confused whether he truly felt sorry for Jesus. He was the one counting the lashes, or was he doing it to get the peoples' pity?

  6. I agree with everyone that Caiaphas wanted to execute Jesus the most. In the video, he influenced the crowd to go against Jesus and the only way to eliminate him was crucifixion. Caiaphas opposed Jesus' teaching and his belief of him as the true Son of God. He sees him as a treacherous person going against the higher authorities. Jesus' trial was unjust because he remained silent and yet he was sentenced to be crucified. Although he did choose not to say anything in order to save all of us from sin. Pilate tried to save Jesus by suggesting him to be put in prison or exile him away. Jesus proclaimed that his death was already fated and nothing can change it.

  7. Jesus did not receive a fair trail, because the crowd was being brainwashed by one person. The crowd chanted for Pontius Pilate to crucify Jesus, however Pilate tired his best to prevent Jesus’ crucifixion, because he knew that Jesus was innocent. Pilate also mentioned that he cleans his hands from the bloody crucifixion of Jesus, however he agreed to have Jesus crucified, because the crowd kept getting out of control. I believe that Herod wanted Jesus dead the most, because Herod was considered the King of the Jews and rumors were being spread that Jesus too was the King. Before Jesus was born, a prophecy claimed that the son of God would come and claim his rightful place. In desperation to keep his kingdom, Herod determined to kill all the first born male child, called the royal command. Also, Herod felt that Jesus was weakening his reign over the people and he felt that his kingdom was his and only his and was determined to kill anyone who would proclaim themselves as the King of the Jews.

  8. Bianca I love your answer, and you! <3 (:

I don't think Jesus had a fair trial. It seemed like the crowd influenced Pontius' decision. I'm guessing he had that mindset that he must please the people, who everyone will hate him and probably cause a riot.

I agree with Bianca, I do believe that Herod wanted Jesus executed the most. Herod was "supposedly" the King of the Jews, and when Jesus was being born, Herod sent out an order to kill all boys of the age two and under in Bethlehem. I guess Herod was just jealous that Jesus was getting all the attention that He was the "King of the Jews", even though Jesus just wanted to preach the Good News of God.

  9. I think that Jesus did get a fair trial because he did have opportunities that he could've been immediately freed especially when he was with Herod. Jesus still was afraid of dying and was having his doubts but he still was faithful to his mission. I think that Caiaphas wanted him dead the most due to the fact that he got what he wanted before Jesus, who Caiaphas believed was a reckless Jew from the north, came and destroyed the temples most profitable day of the year.

  10. I agree that Jesus did not receive a fair trial, but I feel that this was indifferent to him. Jesus understood that his fate was sealed, therefore he accepted the unjust treatment. As for who wanted Jesus to be executed the most, I think it was Caiaphas. Caiaphas was extremely greedy and detested Jesus' behavior more so than anybody. Pilate was reluctant to kill Jesus and he did so only to prevent any riots against the government. Herod may have had mild hatred towards Jesus, however I doubt that he feared that this lowly man who couldn't even perform a miracle in front of him was much of threat to his authority. Judas made a mistake by accepting the 30 pieces of silver in return for revealing Jesus. He soon regret this mistake and understood what he did wrong. His mild anger towards the fact that Jesus was not the military leader that was expected provoked him to accept this payment. In my opinion, Caiaphas is the true villain because of his sinister plot in order to reveal Jesus and punish him for his actions.

  11. I think that Caiaphas wanted Jesus dead the most becuase of what Jesus did to the temple, and how many followers Jesus was starting to obtain. I do think that Jesus received a fair trial even that Pilate tried to help Jesus, because Pilate seen how many people wanted Jesus dead but not see a legitimate reason for jesus to be killed. Pilate tried to get jesus to talk so he can have jesus arrested instead of killed, but I think by pilate trying to imprison Jesus he was trying to offer some sort of protection from the people who wanted him killed.

  12. Well, like the majority of the class i believe that it was Caiaphas who wanted Jesus dead the most. I think that feared he was going to lose power of his people because of Jesus and how he opposed authority. The last straw that drove Caiaphas crazy i think was Jesus storming into the temple and kicking everyone out. Not only did the temple lose a lot of money but this act may have given the temple a bad image, making people want to stay away from it from then on. Next question, did Jesus get a fair trial? I think that he did. Jesus could have easily performed a miracle or even defended himself by speaking but he chose to stay silent and follow his Father's plans. When Jesus claims in the video that everything is fixed; I don't think he is talking about Pilate setting him up, I think he is referring to God's will and that no matter what happens his will would be done.

  13. Jesus probably didn't have a fair trial. But mabey thats exactly what he wanted. He needed to see wether or not he would leave a mark on everyone and if the will remember him. Or another theory could be that mabey Jesus himself could have arranged something with Pilate. A army of devoted religious followers can ba a powerful thing, as shown with many modern day terrorism. Perhaps they could have arranged a look-a-like to fake the death on the cross and have Jesus come out okay to make it seem like he could have ressurected. That could have convinced a large mass of people into faithfully following him. Just look how rapidly the religion grew, it even became Rome's main religion over time, and is now practially the basis for the largest religion in the world. From this, I think the one who wanted Jesus dead the most was himself!

Then again, this is probably just me and my crazy theories, but feel free to insert your opinions if you wish.

  14. This is the third time i am typing this because i hit backspace twice when i was not clicked onto the text box *sadface*. But its all good.

Anyway i honestly do not think we can justify if Jesus had a fair trial or not. Pilate told Jesus, acctually begged Jesus to perform a miracle so he did not have to crucify him, but if Jesus did try to save himself would Pilate really call the crucifixion off? What if this whole thing was already planned out, and Pilate would not have saved Jesus even if he did try to save himself. On the other hand if Jesus would have just done something, or even said something to try to save himself why didn't he? If he knew his fate if he didn't try to save himself why not at least try? Maybe Pilate was telling the truth and would have really called off the whole thing. if i had to choose weather this trial was fair or not i would say this it was not. There were way to many people involved with the trial and it all could have been planned out before it acctually happened.

This next question has a more definite answer for me. As almost all the class said before me, i believe Caiaphas wanted Jesus dead the most. When Jesus and his followers stormed into the temple and ruined everything that was going on Caiaphas was enraged. The temple lost a ton of money that day, and maybe some of its reputation. Because a mob scene would have started Caiaphas let Jesus go and did not start anything, but when Jesus was having his trial with Pilate Caiaphas had no problem letting everyone know that Jesus should be crucified. In the musical Caiaphas even gets the whole crowd chanting that Jesus should be Crucified.

  15. i think jesus did not recieve a fair trial. Jesus never said anything, so the high priests and pilate were aggrivated. But personally i think that Caiaphas was the one who wanted Jesus dead the most. When Jesus stormed into the temple and threw over the tables, Caiaphas was very very mad. That was his money making plan, for him and the high priests. Especially at that time of the year, around passover. I think that he was mad at Jesus before that but the temple incident threw him over the edge.

  16. Jesus did not have a fair trial at all.Caiaphas wanted Jesus executed and did everything in power to make it happen. When Jesus was taken to Herod, he was taken as a joke and Herod dismissed him into Pilate's hands.I honestly believe Pilate did not want to execute Jesus. I think he did not want to punish him at all because he saw nothing Jesus had done wrong. But to prevent a riot and uprising with so many Jews in Jerusalem at the time he just had him executed.I think Caiaphas truly wanted him dead the most because like Mike said Jesus was basically a threat to his power. He didnot want people to start questioning whether what he was doing was right or wrong. Also when Jesus and his disciples entered the Temple and turned the tables, literally,it ticked Caiaphas off that he could not do anything but watch Jesus mess up his money flow. When you mess with a person's money who mess wth their emotions and that's exaxtly what happened when Jesus entered that temple.

  17. At first i really did believe Jesus did not have a fair trial but Matt really did prove a good point and now I'm not so sure Jesus had a fair trial or not. I thought Jesus did not get a fair trial at first because i knew that they wanted him dead and all my life i was taught to believe that they, Caiaphas, Pilate, the Jews, etc. , were the "bad guys" and that Jesus was just an innocent man that they killed because they were crazy but now that i am beginning to understand the entire situation a lot better. I'm beginning to believe Jesus did get a fair trial or at least they made it seem like a fair trial. I believe they gave Jesus a chance to have a fair trial but Jesus did not take it. In a trial you are supposed to prove yourself and they did give Jesus a chance to do that but Jesus did not take it. If I were to judge Jesus the same way that they were, I would not believe him either and I would become aggravated and annoyed as well.

I believe Caiaphas hated Jesus the most and wanted him dead the most. I think he hated him because of all the commotion Jesus stirred among the people and what pushed him over the edge was when Jesus made a mess of the Temple and practically threw out all the money he could have made. Money is one of the strongest things that can take over a person and if i were Caiaphas,i would definitely hate Jesus too. Jesus made a fool of him and wasted all his money and i believe that reason enough for someone wanting to kill another.

  18. Jesus received a somewhat fair trial. The reason being is that he was given chances to prove himself to be the Messiah by performing at least one miracle. I believe, like mostly everyone else, that Caiaphas was to blame for the death of Jesus. Once Jesus destroyed his money making scheme in the temple, it must have really set Caiaphas off. This was a great chance for him to make a good amount of money, and Jesus basically threw his plans into the dirt with his actions. In anger, the money craving Caiaphas felt that he had to take revenge and end Jesus’ “charades” once and for all. This was the final straw and made reason for Caiaphas to pull for the death of Jesus.
