  1. It is important to study and understand Jewish culture and history because it is the culture in which Jesus was raised. It gives us special insights of values he learned while he was growing up and how they were eventually fulfilled through him.

  2. It is important to study Jewish culture and history because it gives us a deeper meaning of what Jesus and his people believed in back then. Jewish culture is what he grew up with and learning it, we wouldn't fully understand his teachings and message.

  3. Studying the Jewish history and culture is important to understanding Jesus, because Jesus was not known as a Catholic, but s a Jew. Also, Jewish roots run in Christianity, which helps us identify why Jesus did the things he did.

  4. Do you think many Christians forget that Jesus was a first century Jew? Do you think prejudice against Jews reflects the ignorance that many people have towards Jewish culture?

  5. Studying Jewish history helps us understand Jesus and his messages better. The books in the bible were written for people back in their time so they have different analogies and examples that we won't understand if we don't understand their history and culture. -mike c

  6. Yes, I think that many Christians either forget or are ignorant to the fact that Jesus was Jewish. There is an example of ignorance when the talk show host confronts a Ku Klux Klan member in our book. -mike c

  7. Aww man mike you stole my answer!! Well... aside from ignorance i think that people simply don't WANT to believe that Jesus was a Jew to try to justify their life style or what they believe in(*hint hint* Ku Klux Klan member.) Now going back to the first question "Why is the studying of Jewish history and culture important to understanding Jesus?" I believe that studying Jewish history and culture is important because the Bible was written FOR the Jews of Jesus' time. If we don't understand their lifestyles or their morals then we can never EVER expect to FULLY understand the Bible.

  8. The blog finally let me write!!! Ok.
Anyway, I think that in order to know a person fully or to at least begin to know them you must have a little histiry on them. So like meeting a new friend we have to know some of Jesus' history to begin to make a connection with him. I also agrre with Mike when he says that he thinks many christians forget that Jesus was once a Jewish person.

  9. Studying the Jewish history and culture is important to understand Jesus because it gives us an insight of how he lived 2,000 years ago. We would learn the daily life and religious practices of Jesus’ heritage as a Jew. Without Jewish history which applies to the Old Testament, I believe it would be impossible to create the New Testament. I think Christians do forget that Jesus was a Jew because they assume since the Jews do not believe Jesus was the Son of God they ignore that Jesus was also a Jew. Instead they believe he was “the first Christian.”

  11. It is important to understand Jewish culture because Jesus was Jewish and he was raised under Jewish customs and beliefs. Getting in touch with Jesus' roots is a way of getting in touch with him.

  12. Since Jesus was a Jew learning how he was brought up and the culture he lived in is very important. Many Christians today are prejudice against Jews even though Jesus was original a Jew, to me this shows how some people are so ignorant and don't truly know about what they believe in.

  13. I think it is important to study Jewish culture and history becuase Jesus was Jewish. By studying the culture we may be able to understand some of his sayings that are unclear, or understand why he did some of the things he did.

  14. Was Jesus a Christian or a Jew? Most people would answer that he was the "first Christian" and forget that he was actually once a Jew, just as Asia and Mike said. Studying Jewish history/culture are important for understanding Jesus because he was firstly, based on their Jewish roots. Meaning to say, he DID have Jewish heritage and spoke directly to the Jewish community of his day. Getting to know Jesus' roots is a very helpful way of understanding him better.

  15. Just as everyone said before, studying Jewish history helps us understand Jesus better. Everyone already knows that Jesus was Jewish, and that some people are too ignorant to realize or even know that he was one. But back to the question; knowing Jewish history and culture will help us reveal more significant information on Jesus' life, and how he grew up to the man he became.

  16. It is important to understand the Jewish culture because, as previously stated, Jesus was of Jewish heritage. Understanding the Jewish culture and history gives us a better outlook on Jesus' influences and upbringing in his time. Ultimately, this will strengthen our bond that we form with Jesus in the future.

  17. The studying Jewish history and culture is very important. How can we truly know Jesus without studying his background? If we are even attempting to try and know this man Jesus, then step one is to have some background information on him. I also believe that those who consider Jesus "the first Christian" are wrong, because I feel that Christianity was truly started after Jesus's Resurrection. Sure, you can argue that he was the first Christian because he started Christianity but that makes him a teacher. In my opinion, one of the true essences of Christianity is Jesus's Resurrection and without that, Christianity wouldn't have made it too far. Those who see Jesus as a Christian and not as a first century Jew fail to realize the true background of Jesus and thus stereotypes and prejudice is ignited.

  18. It’s vital to study Jewish history and culture because we get an understanding of why Jesus would do what he did and why he’d put so much passion into it. Like Asia said, knowing someone’s background would let you understand them much more; so knowing Jesus’ background is going to help us comprehend him and his teachings also.

  19. It is super important to understand and study the Jewish history because Jesus was Jewish and he lived and died under Jewish rules. Without knowing the Jewish history we would not have Catholosism, because the Catholic faith is based on the Jewish faith. Our Bible would also be differnt because we would not have the Old Testament. If we didn't know about the Jewish faith we would not have as much of a vast outlook on the past of the Catholic faith.

  20. Its importatt to understand Jesus' culture bucause its part of what made Jesus who he is. He would be a different person if he lived now then many many years ago. To understand Jesus and why he did some things he did, you have to understand the cluture from those years Jesus was alive

  21. It's very important to understand and study Jewish history and culture because that's where Jesus has originated from. Since Jesus was originally Jewish, it shows what he has done for the culture and the people whom have followed. It's another insight to studying Jesus's history, than the Christian ways we do today.
